This term is common to almost all of us because we are familiar to this since our childhood. Because every school, college, village, town or city is having some sort of tournaments conducted to encourage the love for sports of people of that area or among the students. At school and college levels, there are tournaments of different games like hockey, football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, tennis and other games in which students of surrounding schools or colleges take part, and in bigger tournaments, participants come from far away places. Likewise is the case of other tournaments like village level, city level, district level, state level, national and international level tournaments. For the participants of the tournaments there are provisions for their convenience. These include their transportation, availability of food, hospitality and other needs. This is all done by the organizers of that particular tournament with the help of funds collected from the donors, sports clubs or from any other source. There are big tournaments of different games, which are famous exclusively for the same. In these types of tournaments various teams are invited by the organizing committees to play at their tournaments also it is a great feeling for the players to play at these very tournaments. This is because of the fact that players get recognition at these tournaments and they have a chance to show their game capability to a large crowd, which is there to witness that particular tournament. At these tournaments the winning teams are awarded with a huge amount of money in the form of prizes and in some big prizes are distributed among the winning teams and also some prizes for every participating team as a token of love and encouragement from the organizers of the tournaments.
In these tournaments the organizers use to invite some famous personalities to attract more and more people and also to encourage the players. These personalities may include some higher government official, film stars, and players of distinction or anyone else who is well known to the people of the area. In these types of tournaments, it is generally seen that there are chains of functions, which take place in the due course of time like at the opening day of the tournament and at the closing day. At the closing day of the tournament it is a common practice to have a cultural function alongwith the prize distribution function in which a famous singer or artist is invited to perform for the enjoyment of public. In some cases there is also a show of fireworks at the closing day prior to the prize distribution function of the tournament. At outside of the grounds, there are number of stalls including tea- coffee stalls, book stalls, sweets-stalls, fast food providing stalls, etc., which have a chance to earn money for them. They are using the tournaments their space for doing business. In some cases if space is available these stalls are allowed to be installed around the grounds in the stadium. It is a place where people from different sections of the society together watch and enjoy the games at a common place. And this is where the players get the maximum exposure to the level at which they have to perform to be the best among rest. This exercise has its advantage, as through these tournaments, the players get acknowledgement and the chance to show their expertise and the level up to which they have mastered the game! This is very essential for the future of all games and the players also!
