Tulane Conference USA Awards

Wave head coach Rick Jones was given the award of Coach of the Year, Micah Owings was picked as the Player of the Year and Brad Emaus, the Green Wave's third baseman, hauled in the Freshman of the Year Award.
In total, Tulane was able to put five of their players on the Conference USA first team roster, a pair on the second team roster, and another pair on the freshman team.
The award make Owings number five on the list of Tulane players to be picked as the Player of the Year. Head Coach Jones said Owing was fully deserving of the honor, not only through his pitching ability but his prowess at the bat which has him in fifth place on the team, extremely high for a member of the pitching staff. In addition, Owings sports an 8-4 record on the year, striking out 108 batters while carrying an ERA of 3.78 in a total; of 99 2/3 innings. At the plate, Owings hit .324 with 50 RBI while popping out 15 round trips and coming in second in the conference in the category. Owings was an all ACC conference selection last year before his transfer to Tulane.
Also on the first team were shortstop Tommy Manzella. Manzella hit .368 on the year, and stole 19 bases. Other members of the first team were Brian Bogusevic, Nathan Southard, and Emaus.
Jones downplayed his selection as coach of the year, saying the honor was simply the result of being in control of an excellent group of players.
Second team honors in Conference USA went to catcher Greg Dinl and another member of Tulane's pitching staff, J.R. Crowel. Besides Emaus, Sean Morgan, another pitcher, made the all-freshman team.
