The Philadelphia Eagles and Terrell Owens

Owens, affectionately known as T.O., has been in the headlines recently regarding his contract renegotiation with the Eagles. To add fuel to the fire, Owens apparently had a falling out (translation: a heated argument) with Eagles coach Andy Reid and was suspended from training camp for a week. Loyal Eagles fans, who often flock to the training camp practices, have also said that Owens has also been snubbing them by refusing to sign autographs. Philly fans are some of the most loyal in the country, so this particular snub is not a good one-- we're just not used to it.
Owens, always the showman (remember the one-of-a-kind dances that he performed each time he made a touchdown last season?) , held an impromptu "press conference" in the front yard of his spacious Moorestown, NJ home, pumping iron and exercising as he explained his side of things. He and Coach Reid had a disagreement of sorts, or so it seems-- nothing that can't be worked out. Keep in mind that Owens is still trying to renegotiate his contract with the Eagles, so that has been a point of contention over the past several months.
But worse than the T.O./Reid argument is Owens' ongoing feud with Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. Philly fans love McNabb-- he's taken the Eagles to new heights during his reign as head quarterback. And McNabb and Owens are great together-- in fact Owens makes McNabb all that much better. So to see them feuding is disheartening to say the least. Both claim that they can get through the entire season without uttering a word to each other. I think that would be a little hard to do-- and is it even practical?
Some Eagles fans are ready for T.O to just go-- they're tired of the whole thing. But, in the unrealistic world of professional athlete's salaries, I do think T.O . is worth the enormous salary that he receives. After years of heartbreaking attempts, the Eagles finally made it to the Superbowl last year, thanks in large part to T.O.'s magnificent skill. When T.O. became seriously injured during the playoffs, he recovered in record breaking time so that he could at least make a few plays during the Superbowl (he even went against his doctor's orders so he could play).
I wish that T.O. and McNabb would patch things up for the sake of the team. And for the sake of the fans. But it's unlikely that the two will ever be best buddies. Owens apparently called McNabb a "hypocrite"-- something that McNabb does not take lightly. According to an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Owens also apparently rebuffed McNabb's invite for the two to bond at a private training session McNabb hosted in Arizona.
So is there any hope for this year's Eagles team when the quarterback and the wide receiver aren't even on speaking terms? Only time will tell, so we'll all just have to wait and see. Owens is due back at Eagles training camp this Wednesday-- so let the games begin.
