Two Words: Big Game!!!
Thursday, November 16, 2006

By Tovash Hatcher

Did you ever expect to see 2 teams, one with a 5-4 record facing a team with a 9-0 record, square off against each other in what could be the biggest game in each other's season? I went online and bought one ticket to Texas Stadium for Sunday's game. I circled this game on the Cowboy's schedule the day that the NFL released the schedule. I just wanted to see two real good offenses go at each other like two roosters at a cock fight. Oh, and for the record, I do not bet on them either. Prepare to set your face to be stunned as both teams are ready to bring the Fourth of July fireworks to November 19. I'm not predicting a shootout, in fact this thing may become a chess match, but let's enjoy the pregame hype before we take in the actual game.

What do Terrell Owens, Marvin Harrison, Terry Glenn, and Reggie Wayne have in common? These are four wide receivers that are easily of the upper echelon of the NFL. Terrell Owens will tell you in a heartbeat that he is the game's best receiver. But will anyone back him on that? Personally, I believe that Owens is in the top three of the best WR, but I would have to make a strong argument for Colts' WR Marvin Harrison. Other than that, Colts' fans raise your hand if you've even heard this guy talk. That's the type of player that I can appreciate. Owens is a different animal. He competes at a higher level than his competition and he does it with nothing but physical force. Owens is a violent receiver who punishes the opponent once he has the ball. He doesn't run good routes but once he does get the ball, he could run through folks. Harrison is your smooth, quiet receiver. He never celebrates after a score and if you're not careful, you may just forget he's on the field. And that would be a bad thing. Look for Harrison to give the Cowboys' secondary fits. Terry Glenn (Cowboys) and Reggie Wayne (Colts) are the perfect complimentary receivers for their teams. They do their jobs, and they do them well. They are the players that other teams will key in on the most to keep from getting beat by the "number two receiver". Dare I call Glenn and Wayne X-factors? I think that other players on the field will become the X-factors of the game, but Glenn and Wayne will get much respect at the end of the season when its time for Pro Bowl voting.

And when did Tony Romo become one of the best quarterbacks in the league? That was a bit tongue-in-cheek but sadly, it's true. Today's NFL is so watered down in a few positions. The quarterback is protected more by the league creating a softer quarterback. Remember when your dad or your favorite coach would tell you to "take it like a man"? Today's QB is soft and the numbers reflect the underachieving QBs. Tony Romo is the 2nd highest rated quarterback in the league with a 101.2 behind Colts' QB Peyton Manning (104.5). Although the quarterback rating is highly overrated, it does mean that there's something being done right. I would love to be mentioned in the same breath along with the game's best passer in Mr. Manning. Playing in just 3 ½ games over a 4-week period, Romo is quickly surpassing all expectations in the city of Dallas and around the league. The game on Sunday will be the first on a number of fronts for the two quarterbacks. This will be Romo's first home start and believe me, there will be a warm reception for the youngster. Cowboy fans around Dallas are buying #9 Romo jerseys at a rapid pace. The love for this young, gun-slinging QB is unreal amongst Cowboy's faithful. Also, Manning will be leading that high-powered Colts offense for the first time in Texas Stadium. The 9th year QB is touted as one of the greatest ever to play that position. And that's saying a lot considering the fact that he's in the same company along with Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas, John Elway, Terry Bradshaw, and many others. Manning versus Romo should be an exciting battle this Sunday and the entire nation will be watching. The NFL also noticed the potential ratings increase in the game and decided to move the game to the 3pm CST slot.

I look for the game to be an exciting one. I'm picking the Cowboys to be the first team to give the Colts their first loss of the season.

I just think that the game means more to the Cowboys who are looking to put together only their second 2-game win streak. I also see this game being a springboard type game that will propel the Cowboys into playing better football during the stretch run. All season they have been battling the media who's been calling this team a mediocre team at best. Dallas clearly has a talented team and Tony Romo, Terrell Owens, Terrance Newman and others will be eager to put that talent on display again in front of the country. This game and others will be fun to watch during Week 11.
