<< Home Cowboys/Giants preview Saturday, December 02, 2006 By Tovash Hatcher If you think that the Cowboys and Giants game in the Meadowlands this coming Sunday is just another game, you haven't been keeping up with the news lately. I've found it very funny that this thing is playing to be a soap opera. And you know something; Terrell Owens has been fairly quiet. Wait a minute, did I just say that Terrell Owens, Mr. "Why am I here?". Mr. "attempted" turned "accidental" suicide has been quiet lately?? I don't believe it either. Players on the New York Giants have been mouthing off to the media and to their coaching staff, and even to each other. Let me take you through a quick timeline of their troubles. January 2005- after a Giants loss in the playoffs, running back Tiki Barber goes off on his Head Coach Tom Coughlin through the media saying that the coaching staff caused them to lose and not the players. November 19, 2006- another Giants loss but this time to the Jacksonville Jags, TE Jeremy Shockey tells an ESPN reporter that "there's no way in hell that the Cowboys will beat us if we play our game". And Jeremy, can you explain to the rest of the world exactly what the hell is your game? For the last month the Giants have been playing the game of "it's not MY fault" with each other. November 26, 2006- DE Michael Strahan calls out WR Plaxico Burress for giving up on a play in the game against the Tennessee Titans when Eli Manning over threw the ball to Burress resulting in an interception. Strahan went on a radio station in New York and aired his team's dirty laundry. He said that Burress gave up on the ball and didn't put any effort in trying to make the catch. After the interception Burress didn't even put any interest in tackling Adam Jones of the Titans who was directly in front of Burress. November 29, 2006- Strahan confronted a female reporter in the locker room saying that she was attempting to turn the team against each other. Even though Strahan clearly made public comments about Burress on the radio, he told reporters that he did not make comments about any of his teammates behind their backs. Kelly Naqi, the ESPN reporter whom Strahan was singling out in the locker room asked Burress about the Strahan interview on the radio and he told her that he hadn't heard the Strahan on-air rant. Had enough? And that was just the Giants. Normally it's the Cowboys and their loud-mouth receiver, or Hall of Fame Head Coach grabbing all the headlines. Owens has been hushed by the stellar play of quarterback Tony Romo. Parcells hasn't made a lot of mouth-dropping comments, just the usual Bill Parcells talk. The Cowboys will be going to New York to play a dysfunctional, injury riddled Giants ball club and that is not always a good thing. Just imagine a wounded animal on the street. If you've ever gone near an injured animal, it becomes more dangerous. The New York Giants will be that wounded animal on Sunday afternoon. Consider this upcoming game against the Cowboys to be the last shot to get the season back. Even though the Cowboys will need to win this game to gain sole possession of 1st place in the NFC East, a Giants' victory could cure everything. Remember Tony Romo's first NFL half-game? It came against the Giants on Monday night in October when he replaced an aging Drew Bledsoe whose final pass was an interception in the red zone. Parcells pulled Bledsoe at halftime and in came Romo. The Giants slaughtered the Cowboys at Texas Stadium that night and since then; both teams have been headed in opposite directions. The Cowboys have been one of the hottest teams in the league winning 4 of their last 5. Tony Romo has captured the hearts of NFL fans and the media. He has been the talk of the league while the Giants have become the NFL's version of the Osbornes. Their QB Eli Manning has been under the microscope in New York and he also fans starting to second guess the Giants' decision in acquiring him in the first place. Although the game may not be the final test for Romo or Manning, the NFL will have a heck of a battle on its hands when these two teams clash. I'm Tovash Hatcher 11:44 AM Post a Comment << Home |
